The site on which Longdale Craft Centre has stood for over thirty years was once an array of chicken and mushroom sheds. In 1972, Gordon Brown saw these derelict farm buildings and had the vision to create a Craft Village as an arena for local artists and crafts people to display their talents. Gordon based his studio here and over the duration of Longdale’s life, visitors have been able to view at first hand his work, which has brought him worldwide recognition. Much of this work has been linked with the city of Nottingham where he his proud to serve the community in which he grew up. Longdale itself has a series of exhibition and museum spaces set out to form a Victorian / Edwardian street. The shop fronts that you will be able to view here are all originals that were reclaimed and saved from destruction. Recycling is an issue that Longdale is always keen to promote.
